HOW I WORK
Hi I am Caroline, I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP working within their ethical framework. I have many years experience supporting adults, young people and families. This experience has helped me to understand how our environments, relationships and circumstances impact on our lives with lasting effects. I am a person centred counsellor which means I offer a space for you to breathe and unravel your thoughts and the emotions around them. By reflecting back these thoughts to you as we talk, I can give you the opportunity to take a look at the way you feel about your life without feeling judged or criticised. I will actively listen and offer very gentle enquiry as you talk so that I understand how things are for you and respond with empathy and compassion. I work by offering you these core conditions of person centred counselling, which means that you remain at the heart of your sessions. As our therapeutic relationship deepens I hope you will feel safe to explore further and start to adopt the changes you want to find a peaceful mind and a calmer thoughts.
HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP
You are unique and so is the way you feel, by actively listening to you I will try to understand how things are for you and how your life is impacted by the issues you want to talk about. These are some of the conditions you may be experiencing and how counselling may help
DEPRESSION
Depression can trigger feelings of sadness, guilt, irritability, and feelings of hopelessness but also physical symptoms such as pain, stomach upset, fatigue, and restlessness If you are feeling depressed counselling can help you to discover and explore the root cause of your depression and regain your self-confidence.
ANXIETY
Anxiety is a feeling of worry or fear that is a normal response to a range of different situations.
It can affect your mental health when you feel anxious every day and can’t remember when you last felt relaxed.
Counselling can help you explore the cause of these feelings, understand them and suggest ways of dealings with situations. I can help you learn how to cope with anxiety.
CHRONIC PAIN
It can be overwhelming living day-to-day with intractable pain, by having a space to be listened to, feel understood and accepted, I can help you increase a sense of hope and ability to cope with the pain. Counselling can help you examine the ways pain has been affecting social relationships, sleep patterns, eating habits, and ways of thinking
BEREAVEMENT
There's no 'one size fits all' when you are experiencing grief, everyone is different and counselling can help you understand your complex and painful emotions and reduce the distress you may have about how you are feeling
RELATIONSHIPS
Counselling can help improve the way you relate to those around you and allow you to break free from old patterns of behaviour. I can provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment to help you identify issues or problems in a relationship and find a way through those difficulties.
TRAUMA
Unrecovered trauma may result in
intrusive thoughts and images. What happened 20 years ago still feels like it’s happening today causing flashbacks and disturbed sleep. Being in a hyper state of arousal can cause many emotions including intense fear and exhaustion. Counselling can provide a safe place to feel more grounded and explore your triggers and ways to cope
.
